The Djarlma Plan (the Plan) is an election commitment of the McGowan Labor Government. It is a critical initiative that will address the ongoing complex challenges faced by the forestry industry, shape the direction of future investment and jobs, and provide opportunities for collaboration, innovation and growth.
To support the development of the Plan, a Reference Panel (the Panel) has been established to provide independent guidance in the development of the Plan. The Terms of Reference for the Panel are available to download.
The Panel compromises of:
Dr Lyndall Bull – Chair
Mr Ross Holt – Member
Mr Ian Telfer – Member
Dr Chrissy Sharp – Member
Mr Oral McGuire – Member
The Djarlma Plan will be used to help shape the direction of future investment and jobs, and provide opportunities for collaboration, innovation and growth in the sector.
A stakeholder engagement process is currently underway to have input into the Plan. The aim is to unearth views from a broad range of people with differing interests in the forestry sector that are beyond ‘business as usual’ and help shape a sustainable future for the sector.
The consultation is based around four key strategic directions for the industry that were identified by the Reference Panel. These are:
• Community benefits – the community recognises the benefits from forests and woodlands
• Industry for the future – improving the economic and social values of the forest industry through collaboration and innovation
• Healthy forests – delivering ecologically sustainable forest management
• Wood products and ecosystem values – reducing our carbon footprint
